I absolutely adore the new Escada campaign!!

The stunning 26 year old Israeli model, Bar Refaeli, is the face of the Especially Escada fragrance. The campaign images were shot in a French-inspired garden in Los Angeles where flowers had been trimmed to create Escada’s iconic double E.

I could imagine Barbie and the Stepford Wives meeting for tea in this garden. Could I get an invite too please?

Indulgence For Today: 2011 LACMA Art+Film Gala

On November 5 Hollywood A –Listers walked the red carpet at the LACMA’s inaugural Art + Film Gala. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest art museum in the western United States, with a collection extending from ancient times to the present. (http://www.lacma.org/) With this year's honourees being Clint Eastwood and artist John Baldessari, the swanky affair was co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and Eva Chow. The evening boasts a guest list of some of the biggest names in the movie industry and art world and raises funds for the museum’s recently reenergized film program, which now includes exhibitions, acquisitions, educational programming, screenings, and a series called Live Read created by Jason Reitman.

It's not often that you see so many gorgeous looks on one red carpet. It was not just the fashion that made my heart happy, but also the fact that my favourite series, Modern Family, nearly made a clean sweep. They picked up the award for Best Comedy, along with statues for its writing, directing, supporting actor and actress.

(I'm sure that Phil would agree that Claire looked sensational!!)

I had a tough time selecting my favourites.... so here's my edited list! I reckon less writing and more pics on this rainy Cape Town Monday.

If you were a teenager in the 90’s (and NO that doesn’t make you old!!) you’ll certainly remember Nirvana and the legendary Kurt Cobain.

Well, this year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind album. Do you remember the album cover?? I do!! I have a “memories box” and I recently found an old homework book covered in images of Nirvana and the infamous image of the swimming baby. AAAHHH! The good old days…………..

The gorgeous young lady in the images below is no other than the daughter of the tragic late rocker Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. Frances Bean Cobain celebrates her 19th birthday and it’s has been dubbed the most anticipated comings of age in recent pop cultural history.

The rock royalty offspring has marked the milestone with a stunning photoshoot with fine art photographer Rocky Schenck and Fashion Director Amina Akhtar.

We look forward to many more happy and glamorous moments in this young lady's life.

The exceptionally stylish duo Lauren Conrad and Lauren “Lo” Bosworth teamed up for a girls’ night out. They attended the Dinosaur Ball at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles over the weekend in honour of the new exhibit.

The former “Hills” & “Laguna Beach” hotties looked fabulous in floor-length gowns as they chatted it up with press and posed for pictures together before heading inside.

L.C., 25, donned a pale pink tiered dress from her Paper Crown line and sported her trademark waves, while Lo, 25, went with a hot pink one-shoulder design and wore her hair in a sophisticated updo.

Magical Monday: Meet Chris Hepburn

Meet Christopher William John Hepburn aka Chris/Chrissy.

I've known this young lad for almost 8 years and I thought I would share him with the world!

Chris is a model/student and also designs his own furniture range called Hepburn Living.

Chris kindly agreed to let me join him for a little shopping spree at Canal Walk. I don't spend much time shopping for men's clothing so I was quite excited about our adventure. BUT first he had to answer a few questions!!!!

Favourite fragrance for yourself?

Well, I get bored wearing any one fragrance for an extended period so I tend to mix it up a bit…right now I alternate Versace Eau Fraiche by day with Gucci by Gucci at night, or depending on my mood…however, Acqua Di Gio by Armani is a classic and my all time favourite…and no, you may not touch me wrong!

Favourite fragrance on a woman?

I’d have to say Mademoiselle by Chanel…very elegant and feminine - can’t go wrong with that.

Favourite facial product range?

Not only do I have a sensitive side that likes wrinkly puppies and fluffy bunnies, but I tend to be very sensitive to any products containing sunscreens or fragrances. With this in mind, the Clinique men’s range is ideal for anyone who suffers from any sensitivity like I do…

Favourite activity on a Friday evening?

It’s not so much what I’m doing that counts, rather who I’m doing it with – mind out the gutters please! As long as I’m surrounded by people I care about, I’m a happy chappy J

Favourite restaurant?

Other than Chicken Licken? Hmmmm…I’ve had some very memorable times with some great people at the Delaire Graff Restaurant near Stellenbosch. It just seems to be the total package…good food, good service and spectacular views…I always leave there content and mildly drunk…naughty!

Favourite book?

Hahah! You know models can’t read!

Favourite artist?

Oh man…how do you choose…it ranges from Jimi Hendrix to the Stones, Dire Straits and most recently Kings of Leon…I even appreciate a bit of Jack Parow from time to time, hos ja!

Funniest movie ever watched?

I really do like the cheese…Step Brothers, Talladega Nights, Wedding Crashers, Role Models, I Love You Man, but my favourite has got to be Anchorman – “Don’t act like you’re not impressed.”

(OH Chrissy you forgot to mention Kung Pow which you guys made me watch 20 times! I am still haunted by the one breasted woman)

Favourite local clothing brand and why?

I’m quite a fan of the Black Hawk stuff from YDE…they keep it simple which I like…neutral colours which tend to be more classic with nice fit and fabrics…just wish they weren’t always out of my size!

Favourite international clothing brand and why?

Abercrombie & Fitch for sure…it’s classic and manly, simple!

I love my mom because...….she always has mini Bar Ones in the cupboard.

Motto in life………I haven’t been able to find a single phrase or saying that encompasses how I would like to live my life, so I rather refer to the poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling when I’m in need of some guidance and inspiration…

I eat chocolate because.........I always assumed that was what you were supposed to do with it?

Becky, my mobility-challenged staffie…

Would You Buy These Dresses?

Facebook has certainly changed our lives. The biggest change for me is the fact that I notice immediately when if worn a dress more than once. (Yes I know that there is more to life than what I wear!)

Besides the fact that it's wasteful to have a cupboard full of dresses which I don't wear, it's also stressful on my bank account.

The reason for this particular post is very simply. I would like to know how many ladies out there would buy dresses which have been worn once? We usually refer to these items as secondhand dresses, but I find this word to be so harsh.

For the past 10 months Wonderbra have been on the hunt for South Africa’s next Wonderbra girl and they've finally unveiled her. The 22 year old Queenspark and FHM model from Witbank was named the new face of Wonderbra at an event held at FTV lounge in Cedar Square.

Natasha follows in the footsteps of Teresa De Klerk, Kerry McGregor, Lieschen Botes and Elbe van der Merwe. I personally think that she is unbelievably beautiful and I believe that she is exactly what the brand needs!! An incredible body, fresh face and that sultry innocence.

Indulgence for Today: Blair’s 20th Birthday Party

Queen bee, Blair, celebrated her 20th Birthday on our screens last week. The fashion was nothing less than perfect as usual. It was the final moments of the episode that caused my body to cover itself in a layer of goose bumps. Blair, Chuck, a piano & suspenders……. need I say more?

Birthday girl Blair was spotted in a J. Mendel Fall RTW 2009 dress with Rich Rocks citrine crystal earrings.

Serena wore a J. Medel gown with a plunging neckline which emphasized her ever impressive cleavage. The dress look sensational on screen especially the way the bottom of the dress moved when she walked.

Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe made a guest appeareance at Blair’s party. She looked super stylish in a floor length Pucci gown with Alexis Bittar jewellery.

Oh and then there’s Chuck Bass………. what was he wearing? Who cares, I just loved this photo.

THE CAPE ARGUS CYCLE TOUR–WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

My boyfriend and his mountain biking clan will be doing the Argus on Sunday. I love all the excitement before the BIG RACES. I usually wake up early and watch him prepare! Boys don’t really show their excitement like girls do, but this is the time when I know they are bursting out of their skin!! Putting on their state of the art kits with all their little gadgets and supplements! It is so cool and it makes me want to hop on a bike, ride up a mountain and return home covered in mud! Oh and have you ever watched guys as they talk about the wipe outs? It is EPIC

All this talk about bikes left me with a great idea! Mission TIME! So I grabbed my handbag and rushed off to Olympic Cycles in Claremont to investigate.

I met the owner Jason and his brother Greg. I was blown away by how friendly and helpful these guys are. They have such a chilled approach, but they lead a very professional team and I now understand why all the guys love Olympic Cycles.

It was such a fun experience and I certainly have a few new things on my Birthday list!

I asked the guys for some advice to prevent the first timers from looking like “Freds”.

Here are a few important tips:

Helmets:

This is the most important item! You could get a decent quality helmet for R520.00, but you could pay up to R 3150.00 depending on your requirements. The ladies helmets are a smaller fit than the men’s so try on a few and REMEMBER that it has to be comfortable! You will wear this every time you hop on your bike.

Oh……. before I forget….. WEAR YOUR HELMET THE RIGHT WAY ROUND AND ASK A PRO IF YOU ARE NOT SURE!!!!

YAY! I even spotted a pink helmet!!

Cycling shorts:

I would suggest that you decide on the style of your shorts before you select the rest of the kit. The padding in the shorts is referred to as a chamois and again like the helmets you have various options for ladies and gents. Look out for the pink Woman's Fit tag on the First Accent range.

I really thought that the new Giordana bib shorts are fantastic. The bib shorts prevent you from showing skin when your vest creeps up. The only problem is that if you have to make a pit stop you would usually have to remove your top first. Not with the design!! It has a clip on the front section of the shorts and this allows you to do what you have to do without removing your top. SAVING you time and aggravation!!

2. First Accent 3/4 leg: R 425.00

Look out for the range of arm and leg warmers. These items are great for keeping you warm. You wear them when you start your cycle and then just remove them when your hot. REMEBER that these items add to your tan lines!! You don’t want a vest and an arm warmer tan…..it is just not cool! Check out the full and half gloves while your in this department.

Olympic Cycles stock a variety of cycling shoes. Prices range from R700 up to R 3 000.00. You would be able to get a decent pair for R900.00. Falke are the leading manufacturers of sporting socks. Breathable good quality socks would be recommended.

Booties:

These are “socks” that are worn over your shoes. Their main purpose is to keep your feet warm when you cycle in winter and they help with keeping your shoes dry when cycling in the rain. THEY DO NOT MAKE YOU FASTER!

Camelbacks are used to store the fluids that you require for the race. They also have storage pouches which are handy for all your gadgets.

Remember to ask the guys about their range of saddles. Comfort is exceptional important if you are planning to stay on a bike for hours.

I was so excited about watching the 2011 Oscars that I have not slept. Once I had watched the arrivals I started searching the wonderful Internet for photos. I have been up all night working on this post, but there is so much happening this morning that I am not even tired. My lack of sleep might impair my judgement and possibly affect my grammar!! Jennifer Lawrence was the the first to arrive at the Oscars. She looked super hot in her red Calvin Kelvin dress even though her hair and make-up were kept very natural. Her dress was paired with very subtle jewellery.

Thank - you goodness Mila Kunis arrived fairly early because I could not handle the suspense! She certainly did not disappoint me in her lavender Elie Saab gown. She looked gorgeous as ever!!

Natalie Portman was absolutely radiant in her violet silk chiffon draped Rodart gown

and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Halle Berry had a princess moment in this nude and crystal incrusted corset gown by Marchesa. I think she looked sensational!

Hillary Swank was extremely elegant in this sparkly gown with feather detail by Gucci.

Hailee Steinfeld sketched her own pale ballet pink embroidered tulle dress and Marchesa made her dream a reality.

Calvin Klein designed Gwyneth Paltrow's super sleek silver gown and her jewels were designed by Louis Vuitton.

Mandy Moore's beautiful gown was created by Monique Lhuillier.

This red gown by Vera Wang ensured that Sandra Bullock was one of the best dressed starlets. I wonder if Jesse James kicks himself on a daily basis?

Cate Blanchett wore a structured lilac chiffon gown with pearl details by Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci.

It is hard to believe that Penelope Cruz recently gave birth to her first child. I think she looked as incredible as ever.

Michelle Williams definitely redeemed herself in this Chanel gown after her last red carpet mishap.

Most glamorous couple award definitely has to go to hunky Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend/mother of his children Camilla Alves. Her gown was created by Kaufman Franco.

Celine Dion looks incredible in her Giorgio Armani Prive gown. I can't belief how smoking hot her body is considering she only gave birth to her twins 4 months ago.

Amy Adams wore a sequined gown by L'Wren Scott. Her exquisite diamond and emerald jewellery was valued at $1.35 Million. The sparkly gown does not allow one to notice how amazing the jewellery actually is.

As one one the hosts Anne Hathaway had a few wardrobe changes. She arrived in a red gown by Valentino and the black ruffle gown was by Vivienne Westwood. My favourite was the bustier dress below by Givenchy.

Scarlett Johansson was most probably the biggest surprise of the evening. I usually love her style and she is such a beautiful young lady, but I don't think this dress allows her to shine.

Reese Witherspoon wore a classic black and white gown by Giorgio Armani and emerald earrings. Her hairstyle is a bit dated.

My biggest disappointment of the the evening was Nicole Kidman's gown. I was expecting so much more from her, especially after the exquisite gown we saw her in at the 2011 Grammy Awards. She paired her Dior gown with a rare 19th Century necklace from Fred Leighton.

This tangerine Versace gown certainly shows off Jennifer Hudson's new waistline.

I recently had lunch at Cafe Neo in Mouille Point with 3 very interesting and ridiculously fun Buyers from Ackermans. We covered just about every topic under the sun in the first 2 hours and then it was time to chat about what they do.

Kim, Jackie and Lezell are exceptionally passionate about their careers and you realise this when you start discussing the fashion industry. Passion, patience and persistence are definitely MUST HAVE traits when you decide on becoming a Buyer and these ladies certainly have what it takes!

SO here are the questions I asked them......

1. What do you enjoy most about your job?

2.What is the most painful thing that you have to do on a daily basis?

Buyers are naturally very creative people and your creativity is often neglected because of all the admin that has to be dealt with.

3. Favourite Local Designers?

4. Favourite Internation Designers?

6: There are huge budgets involved and mistakes are costly. How do you decide what to buy for your ranges?

(Group answer)

It's a combination of local competitors (you don't want to have the same items), what the target markets are wearing and trends set by international retailers.

7. Ackermans has more than 450 store in Southern Africa including Botswana and Namibia. Are you responsible for all the stores?

No, it depends on the department. The stores are divided into grids which are determined by the various target markets.

8. What advice do you have for aspiring Buyers?

Don't make the mistake of thinking that it is glamorous all the time! We work long hours and it is a lot of pressure. You have to immerse yourself (it has to be your life). You deal with various cultures and there are often language barriers, so you to be tolerant.

9. Ackermans is constantly evolving. We have seen unbelievable improvements in the children's departments over the years. What could we expect over the next couple of months?

The key is to remember that the main focus of Ackermans has always been the children's wear department. The focus has now shifted to the other departments. New buyers have been recruited and this will bring fresh ideas.

10.Last comment?

The Ackermans Team aspire to be trendsetters and never followers.

Glee star Lea Michele is definitely one the the best dressed celebrities this awards season. She looked lovely at the Golden Globes and sensational at the SAG Awards (see my SAG Awards post).

The 24 year old star paired her Emilio Pucci dress with, Christian Louboutin shoes and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
